Florida Times Union: Working on the First Coast (5/16/12)

We were very excited to be featured in the Money section of the Florida Times Union.
Here’s a sneak peak of the article:

A new discount card service to some 575 businesses on the First Coast is helping local residents track down savings.

Value Hound opened its offices off Old St. Augustine Road in August. The business offers a discount card service for a price that leads to lower prices at businesses in Duval County and some in St. Johns and Clay counties.

Why Value Hound?

I’m not going to lie. I love all those daily deals like Groupon and Living Social. Seems like a new daily deal company pops up every week and I subscribe to every one of them. And I’m guilty of purchasing these deals (gasp!). Besides, who doesn’t like 50 % off a facial or pedicure?

However there have been many days (more than I care to admit) when I simply didn’t have the money to buy ‘the deal’ on that day and I’ve had a few vouchers that I let expire and some I ended up giving to friends because I knew I would never use them.  I tend to get buyer’s remorse, especially when I don’t use them!

This is why I love Value Hound. I wanted to get a discount ALL the time, whenever I wanted, without pre-paying for a product or service that I may or may NOT use.  Am I REALLY going to use my new gym daily deal in the next 3 months when I haven’t seen the inside of a gym in over 2 years? Come on!

The ‘Paw Pass’ is great and I love getting at least 10% off some of my favorite restaurants or going to my favorite retailer and saving money without clipping coupons (that I always forget anyway!).

Instead of offering daily deals that consumers need to look through and select, their business offers a discount card that is good at a number of local establishments.   What’s interesting about this new concept is that it doesn’t require members to clip coupons at all.  All they need to do is present their card to participating businesses and they will be able to take advantage of exclusive discounts.
